"Im Rauschen Rot" for double bass, percussion quartet and electronics received the 1st prize at the Salvatore Martirano Award, the composition contest of the University of Illinois 2013.
Martin was recently commissioned by BBC Radio 3's Late Junction to write computer-music responses to baroque pieces performed by Fretwork's Liam Byrne. The three pieces last in total around 15 minutes and draw on live processing techniques including worldizing, spectral sustain and rhythmic chord building using multitouch devices. Man High, Martin Parker, Stephen Deazley and Andy McGregor's 2011 audiovisual collaboration will receive at least two further performances in the UK in 2013. The first will take place at Glasgow City Halls on Saturday, April 20th, the second in Aberdeen as part of the Sound Festival in November. Man High was created from footage of Joseph Kittinger's historic 'leap from space' in 1960. Frank Gerhardt joins sumtone. He studied composition with Hans Zender and Claus Kühnl (as well as piano and harpsichord) in Frankfurt, where he has now himself been teaching electroacoustic composition and musical analysis since 2000. Matthias Ockert joins sumtone. Matthias is a composer and jazz guitar player, who writes for electronics, traditional instruments, jazz and experimental video. As well as being a former composition student of Wolfgang Rihm, he studied jazz guitar in New York with Bill Connors and Attila Zoller.
After presenting the work "Glasharfe" on the international renowed Festival Inventionen in Berlin it will be presented on the ISCM World Music Days in Vilnius within a sounddome installation especially created for the concert.

Michael Edwards is at GRIM Marseille recording a new DVD-Audio album of improvisation for release on the sumtone label.
