Gesualdo

Programme Note

The work Gesualdo is created entireley out of the composition "Canzon francese" MS Add.30491 from Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa. Despite the formal identity of the original composition it is the aim to use it as raw resource, like a sculptor, to create a new work but at the same time to interact with its individual content. It is not expectable what kind of force the work is developing during time. The beginning sonic elements create rhythmical modules leading to repetitive phrase. The entire form of the work is leading to a huge climax after a long prelude. It is a hypnotic process which is creating an aura like Gesualdos composition does. It is an extrem work drawing you inside without having the chance to escape. It seems like a fever dream.

Das Werk fuer Tonband benutzt Gesualdo's "Canzon Francese" als Klangobjekt, als Steinbruch fuer eine Dramaturgie virtueller Klaenge in dem sich die mit dem Computer durchgefuehrten Verarbeitungsprozesse wie eine Patina ueber das Objekt selbst legt, es zerstoert und neu zusammensetzt. Wie ein Maler, der ausgehend von einer photographischen Skizze seinen Abstraktionsprozess beginnt indem er Elemente des Objektes umdeutet und verformt und das urspruengliche Objekt immer weiter uebermalt.
