Grab

Programme Note

Grab was written for the New Noise Ensemble in early 2008. The piece involves detailed interaction with a computer that listens to each instrument, captures its sounds and stores them. This collection of audio is used with and against the instruments as they play.  Rather than a trio with computer sounds attached, the computer expands the ensemble into a sextet with three distinct digital characters emerging as the piece progresses. As occurs throughout our electronically-mediated lives, the Grab software tracks actions which can be used for or against the players at a later time in the piece.
