Im Rauschen Rot
Programme Note
This piece belongs to a cycle of works where the main subject is noise and noises. The common factor to all the sound research was the rhythm. The sound that is rhythm because of his natural and intrinsic characteristics. Starting from this principle there was a selection of the instruments that would fulfill this sound characteristic. Some of the instruments like the piezo where constructed or adapted for this piece and some are existing instruments that do not belong to the usual percussion setup like sandpaper or granite stones.
In this sonorous context the double bass exists in an rhythmic universe where pulse is decomposed with noise and substituted by a âquasi-regularityâ. In a certain way this piece assumes the form of a conventional concerto where the double bass plays a central role as soloist. The percussions, on the other side, are treated like a string instrument playing with arco and long tenuto notes.
